Have you been up all night?
Sixteen hours spent sitting in pretty much the same position.
Nine hours of ratchet TV, think Keeping Up With Kardashians, Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, Married To Medicine, R&B Divas, Basketball Wives – the list is endless
Three packets of “Ghanaian Lines” hair extensions
Two 1.5 litres of Grape Fanta consumed
Two rom com movies
Two discovery channel documentaries
One really random football game
Funny story, at the half way mark of braiding I felt like shaving my hair and being done with it all. Sore arms, sore back.
..but I persevered.
The end result?
My extra-long Senegalese braids.
Whilst I always profess my love for big hair. I craved something different.
What do you think?

I hate that term “Natural is not for everybody”. What does that even mean? ANY AFRICAN AMERICAN CAN BE NATURAL! Natural hair is not just for selected people! It doesn’t matter if your fro is a T.W.A or 20 inches. It doesn’t matter if your hair is a 3a or 4c. ANYBODY CAN BE NATURAL as long as they know how to care for their hair.

Its that type of mentality that makes people want to hide their natural hair instead of embracing it.

there’s a very subtle hierarchy in the natural hair community where loose curl patterns are the end goal and idk why we dont talk about it

Videos We Love: Janelle Monae’s New Music Video for “Electric Lady”

In case you haven’t see Ms. Monae’s new visuals for her funky “Electric Lady” tune, you ought to check it out now!

Not only will her music video get you out of your seat and groovin’ wherever you are, it’ll have you awestruck at

Janelle’s gorgeous, poofy, mane! The songstress went for a high-energy, greek-party theme, beautifully-ridden with

cameos from the likes of T-Boz, Estelle, Esperanza Spalding, and more! We guarantee you’ll be calling yourself an "Electro-Phi-Beta" too!

Miss Black America Beauty Pageant (1972)

What happend to this?

It had to be stopped because it was “racist against whites”.

Had to be stopped because it ignored white beauty standards.
